It’s Wednesday and time for the funkie side of the design team to share our projects for the current challenge over at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!
The current challenge is hosted by team member Cec who has chosen the theme “B” HAPPY …Cec says, “Create a shabby chic or vintage project that makes you happy and features birds, bees and/or butterflies. You must use at least one of these things with wings and it must have a place of prominence on your creation but if you wish to use two or more, please feel free to do that.”
When I saw this challenge, I immediately reached for the entomology stamp set by Tim Holtz. I used the background stamp from this set to stamp in hickory smoke distress archival ink and then stenciled brushed corduroy distress ink through the honeycomb stencil. I used the merchant stamps to randomly add numbers and swiped the card through frayed burlap distress spray.
The letters were cut from classic kraft stock using the alphanumeric thinlits dies.
The bees were stamped directly onto the card background using the travel stamp platform. They were stamped a second time onto heavystock and a piece of acetate. Cutting the body from the heavystock and adhering over the acetate wings.
I added one more bee and hand drew the line.
The background is design tape with distress oxide over the top and splashed with white paint. The metallic kraft stock is embossed using the foundry 3D texture fade.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I love all things bee/honey related so this card has my heart humming a happy tune! I love the soft, botanical feel you created with your color palette! The splashes of white paint are such a wonderful detail. But the BEEEEEEEESSSSS! They are fabulous with their acetate wings. Such a lovely detail! This card is the bees knees, my friend! Thank you so much for sharing all the details. I love your work!
Very relevant because it’s Bees’ Needs week in the U.K designed to help and draw attention to pollinators. Carnaby Street has been renamed Carnabee Street to celebrate.
Fantastic birthday card! I adore the bees! wonderful soft honeycomb background and the flying bee is the perfect touch!
Love this beautifully stamped card and especially how you have matched the sentiment to the wonderful bees – so clever.
Hugs!

SUCH a cool card – love those bees (although with the new dies Tim shared today they can be even creepier in the future!) Your card makes ME happy!
