  1. Hold Tight

    20th March, 2019 by iGirlZoe

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, fragments stamps, inventor 7 stamps, ideaology, assemblage gears, stamps, mixed media, card

Hello friends. I just can’t stop making with the Tim Holtz Distinguished stamp set. Every time I think I’m done, I want to make just one more. It’s craft crack!

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, fragments stamps, inventor 7 stamps, ideaology, assemblage gears, stamps, mixed media, card
This time I added some of the other new stamps sets to the Distinguished set to create a little background drama. Because who doesn’t love a bit of background drama?! 😉

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, fragments stamps, inventor 7 stamps, ideaology, assemblage gears, stamps, mixed media, card
I covered distress watercolor cardstock with hickory smoke, frayed burlap and brushed corduroy distress spray stain wash. Stamped the Fragments (CMS368) stamp set with brushed corduroy distress ink and lightly misted with water before stamping to create some wicking. I stamped half of the electric bulb stamp from the Inventor 7 (CMS374) stamp set with ground espresso distress archival ink.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, fragments stamps, inventor 7 stamps, ideaology, assemblage gears, stamps, mixed media, card
The gears are from the assemblage range, I covered with grit paste and distress crayons.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, fragments stamps, inventor 7 stamps, ideaology, assemblage gears, stamps, mixed media, card
I painted portions of the inventor stamp with distress crayons and a water brush and added design tape from the salvaged set to cardstock and classic kraft stock for the mounted layers.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, fragments stamps, inventor 7 stamps, ideaology, assemblage gears, stamps, mixed media, card
I created the topper with a label stamp from the Label Frames (CMS264) stamp set, one of my favourite “utility” sets. I stamped newsprint from the Newsprint and Type (CMS266) set over the top with black soot distress archival ink. Again using distress crayon and a water brush to colour the hat and collar. I added filmstrip and a bird from the idea-ology milagros adornment set and some string which I thread through the finger.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, fragments stamps, inventor 7 stamps, ideaology, assemblage gears, stamps, mixed media, card
Finally I added a small talk sticker which I liked. The Distinguished (CMS371) set were of course used in the making of this card. I want to get a tatoo on the inside of my left wrist and my good friend Helen suggested CMS371. You never know… LOL

Thanks for stopping by and for your kind comments here and on social media, I really appreciate it.

  2. Frequently Irreverent

    18th March, 2019 by iGirlZoe

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, mixed media, card

Hello Friends. I’m back with more hats! I used many of the same products that I used for the indistinguishably dapper card and keeping within the same style but changing some elements.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, mixed media, card
I about wept with joy when I saw the March release stamps, but wasn’t entirely sure how I was going to use the Media Marks stamps. I’ve had some epic fails trying (too hard) to use them. But I thought I would give it another go and I think I may have just fallen for the scribble stamp.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, mini pins, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, media marks, card
The background is a super simple hickory smoke and frayed burlap distress spray stain wash. Add a couple of sprays to your non stick craft sheet and drag a piece of distress watercolor cardstock through and dry with a heat tool. Go back and pick up some of the ink droplets and dry again. I added the advert stamp from the distinguished (CMS371) stamp set and added a scribble from the Media Marks 1 (CMS362) set.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, mixed media, card
I stamped the top hat and coat from the Distinguished (CMS371) stamp set and blended in some frayed burlap distress ink with a mini blending tool. I also stamped and die cut a moth from the Entomology  (CM328) stamp set. I added twine across the card with some of the new idea-ology mini pins threaded through it.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, mixed media, card
I also added a small piece of twine to the top hat with some idea-ology mini pins pushed through. I LOVE this top hat, it’s definitely got the “mad hatter” about it.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, mixed media, card
I added a small talk snarky sticker and the bow tie from the Distinguished (CMS371) stamp set, which I’ve been waiting for the right moment to use and today was that moment. I stamped, fussy cut and layered over the coat & collar, it’s SO cute! Did I mention that I love this set?

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, mixed media, card
I added mini pins to both sides of the twine running across the card and tucked it behind the layers, which are idea-ology classic kraft stock and cardstock covered with design tape from the salvaged set. I added some stitching with my new singer heavy duty sewing machine, but nothing too daring this time. 😉

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, entomology, mixed marks, stamps, mixed media, card
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you get some creative time this week.

  3. 304

    14th March, 2019 by iGirlZoe

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, stamps, mixed media, gel press, card

Hello Friends. I’m back with another card using the new Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stamps, this time using Distinguished (CMS371) and Fragments (CMS368) sets. I am sharing these cards on instagram and facebook, but continue to post on my blog for those of you who don’t use social media and to include some additional detail for those who would like it.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, stamps, mixed media, gel press, card
I created the background using a gel press and distress paints in evergreen bough, iced spruce and frayed burlap. Then stamped one of the stamps from the fragment (CMS368) sets in vintage photo distress archival ink.

Thanks to a question from my friend Tera, I have included how I use the gel press with distress paints to create backgrounds. There are lots of far more detailed instructions out there and I am very much a beginner, but if it helps, it’s below…

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, stamps, mixed media, gel press, card
I used a 5×7 inch gel press, a brayer, distress paints and distress mixed media heavystock. Put a couple of drops of distress paint on the gel press and roll the brayer back and forth over to spread the paint. Lay a piece of distress mixed media heavystock over the gel press and rub the back of the cardstock and peel off. Repeat using a variety of colours of distress paint, until happy with the result.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, stamps, mixed media, gel press, card
I stamped the traditional hat and coat/collar from the new distinguished set and this time stamping and fussy cutting one of the new collars, which fit perfectly over the top of the bow tie. I added some snarky small talk stickers and design tape. Confession, the design tape was to cover up small tear. Design tape covers all! 😉

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, stamps, mixed media, gel press, card
The frame is die cut with the stitched rectangles and run through with the lumbar 3D texture fades folder. Blending in walnut stain distress ink with a blending tool and mounting over the background with adhesive foam.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, stamps, mixed media, gel press, card
I also added some numbers from the typography set and piece of broken ruler leftover from another project. I added a wash of mushroom alcohol ink over the top of the numbers. I like to add meaning to my cards, even if sometimes hidden in plain sight.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, stamps, mixed media, gel press, card
304 is a significant number that I know a few of my friends will get… maybe. Hopefully. 😉

  4. Just Breathe

    13th March, 2019 by iGirlZoe

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, entomology, stamps, mixed media, card

Hello friends. Still clinging slightly too tightly to The Professor (CMS373) stamp set, I made a card also using another of my other fave sets from the March stamp release, Distinguished (CMS371).

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, entomology, stamps, mixed media, card
The new wardrobe is dreamy and I stamped and fussy cut the traditional hat and coat-collar. It works beautifully over the lightbulb stamp from The Professor (CMS373) stamp set. That Lightbulb though… OH MY! <3

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, entomology, stamps, mixed media, card
“like moths to a flame” (I couldn’t help myself), I was drawn back to the entomology (CMS328) stamp set and with the accompanying thinlits die set, it couldn’t be easier, especially as it fits through my sidekick, too easy not to!! Love my sidekick.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, entomology, stamps, mixed media, card
The snarky stickers are so so good. I’m going to use them more on my cards. These are from the original snarky small talk set. They’re mounted onto a piece of ruler leftover from another project. Keep those bits to use up later, it’s fun sifting through your bit box and it can often give you some unexpected inspiration.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, distinguished stamps, ideaology, steampunk, dapper, entomology, stamps, mixed media, card
I used a frame from my bit box that I had cut from metallic kraft stock, die cut with stitched rectangles thinlits die and embossed with the foundry 3D texture fades folder. I simply added alcohol ink to it and adhered with adhesive foam. I used the text stamp from the entomology (CMS328) set over the background, as well as the advert stamp from the distinguished (CMS371) set, love this stamp a lot! Stamped in hickory smoke and vintage photo distress archival ink.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you get some time to be creative this week.

  5. The Professor

    12th March, 2019 by iGirlZoe

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card

Hello friends. I wanted to share the details of 4 cards that I made using the new The Professor (CMS373) stamp set from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I used a gel press with distress paints to create the background and stenciled through the crate stencil with more distress paint and a blending tool. Stamping the awesome new inventor 7 (CMS374) stamps in ground epsresso distress archival ink.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I used these mail art stamps (CMS339) released last year to create my own sentiments. Both stamped in black soot distress archival ink and idea-ology adornment arrow, adornments star and a gear were added with a little distress collage medium.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I stamped and fussy cut the professor from distress watercolor cardstock and added to the card with adhesive foam to give it some lift. I blended in a little frayed burlap distress ink in.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
This background was rescued from the scrap pile. I created it using fired brick oxide spray and then painted distress collage medium over the top. I sanded back portions and blended in vintage photo distress ink. Adding a stamped and fussy cut professor from the professor (CMS373) stamp set.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I added idea-0logy nibs, quote tokens and a number 9 from the numeric set which I painted with candied apple distress paint and rubbed to weather.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
Using the mail art (CMS339) stamp set again, I created a border for the bottom of the card. I painted using frayed burlap oxide ink. I added a piece of idea-ology filmstrip over the stamped measure tape from the professor set and added some of the new idea-ology hardware heads. I wish wish wish these were sold in bulk packs, I LOVE them.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
This next card was inspired by the talented Joy Kennedy who created a beautiful sample for Tim’s booth at this years Creativation. You can see her sample HERE.

I created the background using a gel press and distress paints. Stamping with a stamp from the fragments (CMS368) stamp set in vintage photo distress archival ink.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I added lots of idea-ology including, ribbon ruler, numeric, adornment arrows, philosophy tags, milk caps, index clips and adorment stars, all adhered with distress collage medium.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I stamped the cool advert stamp from the new distinguished (CMS371) stamp set. The travel stamp platform was a godsend in this case as the print didn’t come out as bold as I wanted the first time so I kept stamping until I was happy.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I dipped into my bits box and found these die cut gears from the industrial bigz die, cut from metallic kraft stock. I added vintage photo distress crayon to grunge them up. Layered under a fussy cut professor and mounted over the top of the stamped inventor 7 (CMS374) stamp set in faded jeans distress archival ink.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
I addded a fuse and more idea-ology hardware heads. Obsessed!!

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
Finally I added a quote chip of one of my favourite words.
They say that curiosity makes you smarter…

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, the professor, inventor, mail art, stamps, ideaology, steampunk, stamps, mixed media, card
Thanks for stopping by. Hope this post has inspired you to make something.
The Professor, Inventor 7 and Distinguised stamp sets are all available this month.

  6. Sideshow

    13th February, 2019 by iGirlZoe

I’m sharing the final project that I made for the Tim Holtz idea-ology booth at this years Creativation, using incredible products from the idea-ology line.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, vignette tray, hardware heads, photobooth, typography, ruler, baseboard frames, ephemera, faucet knob, sideshow, carnival, creativation 2019
Welcome to the sideshow… step inside!

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, vignette tray, hardware heads, photobooth, typography, ruler, baseboard frames, ephemera, faucet knob, sideshow, carnival, creativation 2019
This project is all based around this awesome photo from the newly updated idea-ology photobooth. With a massive 120 photographs choose from, this guy jumped out from the pack and I heard carnival music in my head.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, vignette tray, hardware heads, photobooth, typography, ruler, baseboard frames, ephemera, faucet knob, sideshow, carnival, creativation 2019
This fantastic piece from the layered collector ephemera pack was a perfect fit for my sideshow. I added a hand from the adornments milagros set and a gear (of course), plus a mini fasteners. These mini fastener are the unsung heroes of idea-ology and I use a ton of them, so big shout out for little fasteners. The hand spins…

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, vignette tray, hardware heads, photobooth, typography, ruler, baseboard frames, ephemera, faucet knob, sideshow, carnival, creativation 2019
I lined a large vignette tray with paper from the 12×12 french industrial paper stash and added design tape to the edges of the tray. I mounted the smallest baseboard frame over the photobooth photo and added a handle from the mini hardware pulls set with “admit one” ephemera ticket underneath.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, vignette tray, hardware heads, photobooth, typography, ruler, baseboard frames, ephemera, faucet knob, sideshow, carnival, creativation 2019
I used another frame from the baseboard frames, sanded, with vintage photo distress ink blended in and mounted over the top of a vignette box which was lined as the large vignette tray. I added vintage games pieces, idea-ology gears and the new hardware heads, as well as the cool palmistry hand from the keepsakes ephemera pack. I also added a decorative dome, I love these and was pleased to see them return to the the idea-ology line again this year.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, vignette tray, hardware heads, photobooth, typography, ruler, baseboard frames, ephemera, faucet knob, sideshow, carnival, creativation 2019
In the interest of  “keeping it real”… I wanted to include a photo I took from our hotel in Phoenix, the night before the projects were due to be handed in! I had tried to assemble it on my 11 hour trans-Atlantic flight and pressure and bottles of distress collage medium do not mix!

A big thank you to my roomie Vicki, [dig] that crazy chick, for helping me assemble the project. Teamwork in action!

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, vignette tray, hardware heads, photobooth, typography, ruler, baseboard frames, ephemera, faucet knob, sideshow, carnival, creativation 2019
Thanks for stopping by and a huge thank you to Tim Holtz, Mario Rossi and Paula Cheney for inviting me to be part of this years creativation samples and for all of the encouragement and inspiration they provide along the way.

I’ll be back tomorrow with my trip highlights. Thanks for stopping by.

  7. It’s a wonderful life!

    12th December, 2018 by iGirlZoe

Hello friends. I am looking forward to a Christmas party on Friday night with some craft friends and we are each taking a handmade secret santa gift.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
I used some of the Tim Holtz idea-ology holiday products to create this home decor piece.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
I smeared opaque crackle texture paste over an etcetera tag using a palette knife and set aside to air dry, before covering with a layer of vintage distress collage medium.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
Once dry, rub distress crayons into the cracks with your finger and wipe away excess with a damp cloth.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
Add strips of forest collage paper using distress collage medium. The collage paper becomes transparent, so the crackle effect shows through. So cool!

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
Cover an idea-ology collage frame with holly collage paper. Use a water brush to trace around the holly leaves and gently pull away leaving no hard edge. This was such a great tip from Tim Holtz in his recent facebook live. Add to the collage frame using vintage distress collage medium applied with a distress brush. Blend in distress crayons, which will show up the brush strokes left by the distress brush. I love these brush marks as they add texture, but if you don’t want them, add with your finger or a soft bristled brush.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
Add the cool new idea-ology icicles to the top, trimming the corners and add a story stick, colouring with distress crayon. The “Christmas” is collage paper, cool right?!

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
Mount the collage frame over a found relative card from the occasions set. Colour using distress markers.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
Add an idea-ology Christmas word band and a half woodlands tree, sprayed with distress spray, rubbed with collage medium and dusted with glitter using the glitter duster. These half trees are flat at the back and I am personally so grateful for this product. It’s such a time saver not having to trim them yourself to use on a flat surface.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
I am quite obsessed with the new idea-ology thimbles. They have a flat base so you can stand them, but I added it to the collage frame with collage medium. I used the a star from the Christmas tokens set, cutting the loop off the top and rubbing a little gilding wax over the top.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, collage frames, etcetera tag, woodlands trees, found relatives, collage paper, crackle, christmas, holiday home decor.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope that this has inspired you to make something for the holidays. You can see all of Tim Holtz holiday idea-ology products on Tim’s blog.

  8. Tick Tock Christmas O’Clock

    3rd December, 2018 by iGirlZoe

I don’t want to freak anyone out, but we’re 3 days into December! Just going to leave that there…

I find it difficult to skip the details when using Tim Holtz products. They work so perfectly together that it’s easy to get carried away, even when time isn’t on your side. That said, having the right tools makes even the more detailed cards, short work. Tools such as the travel stamp platform, sidekick and glitter duster make it easy to work quickly and in batches.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, inventor, stamps, inventor 1, idea-ology, clock hands, stamptember, sizzix, funky festive, festive greens, glitter duster, holidays, christmas card
I reached for the inventor stamps again, this time going back to the beginning and using Inventor 1 set. I saw a clock adorned with fresh foliage at a garden center a few weeks ago and immediately the inventor clock came to mind.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, inventor, stamps, inventor 1, idea-ology, clock hands, stamptember, sizzix, funky festive, festive greens, glitter duster, holidays, christmas card
Using the travel stamp plaform, ink and stamp the clock only. Slide the heavystock down the stamp platform and ink and stamp the header text onto the top of the heavystock! This is why I LOVE the stamp platform. I stamped a music strip and Christmas greeting onto heavystock with stamps from the Tim Holtz Stamptember 2018 stamp set. Stamping a second clock and fussy cutting a portion to stick over the original stamped image to give a little dimension.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, inventor, stamps, inventor 1, idea-ology, clock hands, stamptember, sizzix, funky festive, festive greens, glitter duster, holidays, christmas card
Paint idea-ology clock hands with candied apple distress paint, rubbing some of the paint off to create a weathered look. Attach to the clock with idea-ology hex fasteners.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, inventor, stamps, inventor 1, idea-ology, clock hands, stamptember, sizzix, funky festive, festive greens, glitter duster, holidays, christmas card
The foliage is cut from the funky festive thinlits die set from classic kraft stock using the sidekick. The bow I used is from last years festive greens thinlits die set. I love this bow! It was all given the glitter duster treatment. I LOVE this new tool because it gives you such a fine layer of glitter. Check out Tim Holtz blog post to see it in action.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, stampers anonymous, inventor, stamps, inventor 1, idea-ology, clock hands, stamptember, sizzix, funky festive, festive greens, glitter duster, holidays, christmas card
I stitched the edges with my sewing machine. I was especially pleased with how straight my stitching was on this card. It’s blind luck, because 2 cards later the stitching was wonky and off the edge… LOL I try!

  9. Holiday idea-ology Table Decoration

    29th November, 2018 by iGirlZoe

Christmas is coming and it’s time to think about decking the halls. I was inspired by the wonderful new Tim Holtz holiday idea-ology to make a holiday table decoration.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, holidays, christmas, sizzix, tree ring bigz die, woodlands trees, decorative deer
Living in Denmark for the past couple of years, I wanted to add a little Scandi style to my Christmas decorations. The woodland theme is popular here, so the tree ring die was perfect and that’s where I began…

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, holidays, christmas, sizzix, tree ring bigz die, woodlands trees, decorative deer
To make a dimensional base, I upcycled some shipping boxes I had amassed during a lot little black friday sale shopping!

Step 1: Die cut slices of tree ring from the shipping boxes and glue them together using distress collage medium.
Step 2: Die cut one piece from distress mixed media heavystock, (this is the piece you’ll emboss, using the matching texture fades folder that accompanies the tree ring die). Blend in vintage photo distress ink and adhere onto the top of the stack.
Step 3: Using a finger, spread distress grit paste onto the side to hide the layers of corrugated cardboard packaging, wiping any grit paste off the top surface and set aside to dry.
Step 4: Paint the side and top outer tree ring with ground espresso distress paint and set aside to dry.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, holidays, christmas, sizzix, tree ring bigz die, woodlands trees, decorative deer
Using a Stampers Anonymous Splatbox, spray a mini, small and large woodlands tree with peeled paint distress spray.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, holidays, christmas, sizzix, tree ring bigz die, woodlands trees, decorative deer
Brush distress collage medium over the trees with your finger and sprinkle over distress rock candy glitter. If you use the new glitter duster that was recently released by Stampers Anonymous, you get a much finer layer of glitter than pictured here.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, holidays, christmas, sizzix, tree ring bigz die, woodlands trees, decorative deer
Paint a small and large idea-ology decorative deer with gathered twigs distress paint and once completely dry, add circles with antique linen distress paint.

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, holidays, christmas, sizzix, tree ring bigz die, woodlands trees, decorative deer
Die cut a bow and word from Tim Holtz thinlits handwritten holidays and fold-up bows thinlits dies, from idea-ology classic kraft stock. Adhere everything to the base using distress collage medium (a little goes a long way and it dries in seconds).

iGirlZoe: Tim Holtz, idea-ology, holidays, christmas, sizzix, tree ring bigz die, woodlands trees, decorative deer
There are so many options with this decoration. You could add an idea-ology memo pin with a name and use it as place-card holder. You could leave off the “believe” die cut and put an electric tea light in the front. You could also add a bent word band to the front. I will be making some more for my family Christmas table and will share them on my instagram.

  10. Tim Holtz Tag Press Witches Hat

    4th November, 2018 by iGirlZoe

Hello friends. I am back with a Sunday step by step for the witches hat that is hanging in The Witches Boutique, using the Tim Holtz idea-ology tag press.

Gather these supplies, all are listed at the bottom of the post and the black felt is from my own stash. I WISH I had some deep purple felt, I’ll have to order some witchy colours and make some more. I already have an idea for a home decor project for next year. But for now, here’s how…

    1. Spray mummy cloth with distress spray stain and set aside to dry.
    2. Using the Tim Holtz large circle paper punch, punch 4 circles out of distress mixed media heavystock.
    3. Place one of the heavystock circles into the tag press frame and press.
    4. Use the second circle as a guide by placing it onto a piece of felt and cutting around the circle, leaving a half inch border, (t0 fold over the frame).

    5. Place the pressed tag onto the felt you just cut and snip lines all the way around from the edge of the felt to the circle frame. Cover with distress collage medium and start to fold the felt over the frame.
    6. Continue to fold the felt over the frame and press down into the collage medium and set aside to dry.
    7. Cut another piece of felt using the heavystock circle as a template, (this time don’t leave a border).
    8. Adhere the felt circle over the back of the circle frame to hide the gathered material.

    9. Take the 3 remaining heavystock circles and cut a line across the middle leaving a quarter uncut.
    10. Roll each of the circles into cones and stack them on top of each other, covering in a layer of collage medium to hold in place.
    11. Once the glue is dry, cover in a layer of distress paint that best matches the felt and allow to air dry.
    12. Assemble the hat with collage medium. Once completely dry, gently bend the frame of the pressed circle tag to create the signature witch hat curve.

Use a smaller circle tag and punch for different size hats and mix your distress paints to colour match to your felt. The possibilities are endless, I hope you give it a go.

    Thanks for stopping by.
