  2. Frilly & Funkie Opposites Attract!

    11th May, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This challenge is hosted by Kathy (Kathy by Design), who has chosen the theme OPPOSITES ATTRACT …Kathy says, “For this challenge, the Frilly side of the team was asked to create a project in Funkie Style, and next week, the Funkie side of the team will create a Frilly style project. To play along, we’re asking you to dig deep and create any kind of project you choose, as long as it is not done in your usual style and color palette.”

iGirlZoe: Opposites AttractThis really was a challenge for me, but I embraced it wholeheartedly, I even used PINK!!!

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
Distress markers direct to the stamp, spritzed with water and stamped onto distress watercolor cardstock.

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
Create a watercolor wash with antique linen distress marker and water onto a craft mat and brush over with a large flat brush.

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
Paint the back and inside sides of an idea-ology burlap panel with walnut stain distress ink.

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
I wanted to use the rose stencil inside the burlap panel but it wouldn’t fit, so I did the unthinkable and cut the borders off! Paula Cheney made me do it! She cuts her rubber stamps!!! I’m not quite there yet, but this was a brave move for me! 😉

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
Tape the stencil into place and spread texture paste through with a palette knife.

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
Once completely dry, blend picked raspberry distress ink over the top with a blending tool.

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
Cover the watercolor distress card with a layer crazing medium, working quickly and not over brushing so as not to smudge the distress marker underneath. I LOVE this crazing effect!

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
Mount the watercolor distress card into the burlap panel with matte multi medium.

    iGirlZoe: Opposites Attract
I added some idea-ology and trinkets to the bottom of the burlap panel and secured with a dab of glossy accents and stamped “handmade” onto woodgrain cardstock and coloured with distress markers.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  3. Frilly & Funkie It’s Not Easy Being Green

    27th April, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This challenge is hosted by Suzz (Suzz’ Stamping Spot), who has chosen the theme IT’S NOT EASY BEING GREEN …Suzz says, “For this challenge you can create any type of project as long as you UPCYCLE or re-cycle something. Re-purpose an existing item, recycle an element that usually would be thrown away or use your paper scraps in a creative way.”

iGirlZoe: It's Not Easy Being Green
For this challenge I wanted to share a card I made for the CHA 2016 Tim Holtz booth using my paper scraps creatively, as well as showcasing the new mixed media 3 thinlits die set. I also went literal with the challenge theme, because for me, getting things to grow isn’t easy! It really is hard for me to be green (fingered)! 😉

iGirlZoe: It's Not Easy Being Green
I used leftover grungeboard and metallic kraft core and die cut the watering can. Using a sanding grip I scuffed the top to give a more worn look. I added a leftover “love” die cut and ribbon from another project.

iGirlZoe: It's Not Easy Being Green
I used leftover paper from the incredible new dapper paper stash by Tim Holtz and die cut these flowers and leaves with the tiny tattered florals thinlits die set. They were mounted over the top of the brick wall outline that I die cut with the new mixed media 3 thinlits die set.

iGirlZoe: It's Not Easy Being Green
I added a new idea-ology mini plaquette. Each time I use one of these I feel compelled to buy another packet! They are just too divine not to want to stockpile and hoard!

iGirlZoe: It's Not Easy Being Green
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

CHA Product previews and BTS from the show are on Tim’s blog. Many of the new products are shipping now or available for pre-order.

  4. Frilly & Funkie Boy Oh Boy!

    13th April, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This challenge is hosted by Jenny (Pushing The Right Buttons), who has chosen the theme BOY OH BOY! …Jenny says, “For this one we need you to create a vintage or shabby chic project with a man or boy in mind. Let’s see those male themed creations come to life.

iGirlZoe: Boy Oh BoyMasculine themed projects are right up my street. I went “back” to basics with some simple distress techniques and a time traveler. Here’s how…

    iGirlZoe: Boy Oh Boy
Spray distress spray stains onto distress watercolor cardstock, spritz with water and once dry distress and ink the edges.

    iGirlZoe: Boy Oh Boy
Mix ground espresso distress reinker and texture paste and spread through a stencil with a palette knife and set aside to dry.

    iGirlZoe: Boy Oh Boy
Stamp and fussy cut an image from the time traveler stamp set and watercolor with distress markers.

    iGirlZoe: Boy Oh Boy
Add a sentiment from the idea-ology small talk set.

    iGirlZoe: Boy Oh Boy
Add idea-ology nail heads with multi medium.

    iGirlZoe: Boy Oh Boy
Finally add ephemera and idea-ology mini fasteners as waistcoat buttons. Mount onto paper from the dapper paper stash.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  5. Frilly & Funkie Hip to be Square!

    30th March, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This challenge is hosted by Cec (CW Card Creations), who has chosen the theme
    HIP TO BE SQUARE!
…Cec says, “Let’s go retro and make a project influenced by the brighter colours and/or images and patterns of the hippie era of the late 1960’s/early 1970’s. Your project must either be square or include at least one square element.”

    iGirlZoe: Hip to be Square
I was born in the mid 70’s so don’t remember much about the 60’s and 70’s first hand. Looking back through childhood photographs, there seemed to be a LOT of orange!

iGirlZoe: Hip to be SquareAfter some image searches on 60’s and 70’s fashion I stumbled upon an old ad for Pan Am which reminded me of a Tim Holtz wood backed stamp (below).

    iGirlZoe: Hip to be Square
I stamped onto distress watercolor cardstock, watercoloured with distress markers and fussy cut my flight attendant.

    iGirlZoe: Hip to be Square
I cut a sheet of paper from the Tim Holtz correspondence paper stash, stitching, distressing and inking the edges with a little vintage photo distress ink, (there HAD to be a little brown)! On top I layered distress watercolor cardstock, embossed with the globes texture fades folder and inked with faded jeans and salty ocean distress inks (…and a teeny weeny bit of vintage photo)!

For my something square, I blended fossilised amber and rusty hinge distress inks through the tiles stencil by Tim Holtz. Once completely dry I placed the stencil back over the top and stamped with various stamps from the correspondence set.

    iGirlZoe: Hip to be Square
I covered the plane from the adornments set with picket fence paint and when nearly dry, rubbed off to give a distressed look. I added salty ocean distress paint with a fine paintbrush to resemble the Pan Am planes.

    iGirlZoe: Hip to be Square
I wanted my flight attendants head to be in the clouds, but the mini cloud looked too small, so I die cut 2 and stuck them together! To hide the join and give a more texture I added texture paste.

    iGirlZoe: Hip to be Square
From the correspondence paper stash, I cut these instructions, hiding the word “sheet” under the skirt so it looks like flight safety instructions. The star die cut was covered in tarnished brass distress paint with some remnant rubs from the correspondence set added.

    iGirlZoe: Hip to be Square
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  7. Frilly & Funkie Let’s Make it a Trio!

    16th March, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This challenge is hosted by Sue (Stamping Sue Style), who has chosen the theme LET’S MAKE IT A TRIO! …Sue says, “One of the things I love to do is work in 3’s on a project, 3 tags, 3 panels, 3 arches etc…. so for this challenge I’d like to see projects including 3 of something, and this does need to be the main focal point of your project.”

iGirlZoe: Lets Make a TrioMine is a trio of victorian tea cups all stacked up after a lovely afternoon tea party. The cracked die cut reminds me of the cracks in the glaze of old tea cups. The background is stamped with the new Tim Holtz doily stamps as it reminds me of a vintage table cloth. Here’s a step-by-step…

    iGirlZoe: Lets Make a Trio
Ink the stamp with distress inks, lightly mist with water and stamp onto distress watercolor cardstock. I used the new Tim Holtz doily stamp set and distress inks in antique linen, iced spruce, frayed burlap, vintage photo.

    iGirlZoe: Lets Make a Trio
Once dry, blend antique linen distress ink over the entire background. Edge with vintage photo distress ink and spritz with water.

    iGirlZoe: Lets Make a Trio
Spread texture paste through a stencil using a palette knife. Immediately sprinkle embossing powder over the texture paste and tap off excess. Set aside until the texture paste has dried completely, then melt the embossing powder with a heat tool.

    iGirlZoe: Lets Make a Trio
Add remnant rubs or stamped numbers to the background and sand with sanding grip to give a distressed look.

    iGirlZoe: Lets Make a Trio
Cover manila cardstock with foil tape. Die cut with cracked mixed media 3 die. Trim until happy with the shape.

    iGirlZoe: Lets Make a Trio
Die cut mini tea time cups with the Tim Holtz dapper paper stash. Mount over the cracked die cut with adhesive tape or liquid adhesive. Only adhere the cracked die cut under the cup so it sits slightly above the background at the edges. I added one of the new idea-ology mini plaques.

    iGirlZoe: Lets Make a Trio
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  8. Frilly & Funkie Layer it Up!

    2nd March, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This challenge is hosted by Nancy (Tattered Treasures), who has chosen the theme LAYER IT UP …Nancy says, “Let’s add dimension this time around. Simply create any type of vintage or shabby chic project featuring multiple layers.”

iGirlZoe: Layer it UpI used a mix of papers, pastes, paints and metal embellishments to create the layers.

    iGirlZoe: Layer it Up
For the first layer I covered a piece of leftover paper with the new Tim Holtz plain tissue wrap. I brushed on multi medium matte using the new collage brush. I LOVE this brush, it made applying the adhesive so easy.

    iGirlZoe: Layer it Up
I just got the new crazing collage medium and had to use it right away! Using a palette knife I spread it through a stencil and set aside to dry.

    iGirlZoe: Layer it Up
I rubbed a distress crayon over the top to highlight the crazing detail! Awesome right?!

    iGirlZoe: Layer it Up
Admittedly I was looking for any excuse to experiment with the new distress crayons. The consistency is quite soft and I wasn’t sure if I could use them with a stencil, but it worked fine. I rubbed the crayon directly onto the stencil and then smudged into the edges with my finger.

    iGirlZoe: Layer it Up
I cleaned the stencil and placed it back over the crayoned area and then spread transparent texture paste through the stencil to seal the crayon.

    iGirlZoe: Layer it Up
I made some ephemera with the Tim Holtz Correspondence stamp set.

    iGirlZoe: Layer it Up
Finally I added an adornment arrow covered in candied apple distress paint, tied with a piece of trailing twine.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  9. Frilly & Funkie Love is in the Air!

    17th February, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This time it’s my turn to host the challenge and I’ve chosen the theme LOVE IS IN THE AIR! “Create a vintage or shabby chic project with love as the central theme. Think hearts, cupid, love and romance in whatever colour palette your heart desires.”

iGirlZoe: Love is in the AirI LOVE LOVE LOVE the new black cabinet cards and baroque frames by Tim Holtz. When I put them together that die cut heart appeared! Seriously! I didn’t even have to die cut it from the love struck die set and cover with candied apple distress ink! It just appeared! 😉

iGirlZoe: Love is in the Air
I die cut the cupid from the new adhesive backed textile surfaces by Tim Holtz and blended with distress ink. I also used it under the baroque frame but this time covered with picket fence distress paint and overstamped with a sentiment stamp from the handwritten thoughts set with potting soil archival ink. The baroque frame was aged using cracked pistachio distress paint and gold mixative alcohol ink. I sanded the cabinet card and blended vintage photo distress ink into the sanded portions. *TIP: If you won’t see the back of the cabinet card, split the card and keep the back for another project.

iGirlZoe: Love is in the Air
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

  10. Frilly & Funkie Enjoy Your Embossing

    3rd February, 2016 by iGirlZoe

It’s Wednesday and time for another challenge over at Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!

This challenge is hosted by Jenny (Pushing The Right Buttons), who has chosen the theme ENJOY YOUR EMBOSSING …Jenny says, “For this one you need to make a vintage or shabby chic project of your choice and remember to include some embossing. Use your favourite embossing methods (wet, dry, heat, or any other techniques you want to share) – just enjoy your embossing!

iGirlZoe: Enjoy Your EmbossingI created 2 tags using both heat and dry embossing. I cut hearts with the Sizzix heartfelt bigz die by Tim Holtz. The tag backgrounds were created by cutting manila and kraft surface with the framleits tag die and lightly tapping a Tim Holtz background stamp and covering with embossing powder. I used clear powder over potting soil archival ink by Wendy Vecchi on the manila tag and silver embossing powder over distress embossing ink on the black kraft surface. I stitched the edges of both tags and attached a wordband that had been alcohol inked, with twine.

    iGirlZoe: Enjoy Your Embossing
To create this heart, I used the faux graniteware starter kit and archival inks by Wendy Vecchi. I added Tim Holtz idea-ology gears with alcohol ink applied to give an aged look. This was mounted onto the new idea-ology adhesive backed textile surface by Tim Holtz, which I stitched.

    iGirlZoe: Enjoy Your Embossing
The second tag I dry embossed the foil covered heart with Tim Holtz Gears texture fades folder. I used the technique demonstrated in last months 12 tags of 2016 and added cracked pistachio distress paint and alcohol inks to create a faux patina. This was again mounted onto the new idea-ology adhesive backed textile surface by Tim Holtz, which I lightly inked and stitched.

    iGirlZoe: Enjoy Your Embossing
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
