  1. Uncharted Mariner

    24th June, 2022 by iGirlZoe

Hello friends. Happy FriYAY! Nearly weekend and I’ve got plans to spend this weekend making and I’m excited about that. I’m also excited about the new Distress. Did you meet the newest member of the Tim Holtz distress family, Uncharted Mariner? If you missed the new distress launch, you can catch the replay and maker inspiration over on Tim’s blog.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Uncharted Mariner. When I opened the box I gasped and swooned and I knew it was going into my favorites tin alongside my other desert island distress inks. I love the names that Tim comes up with and I wanted to celebrate the name and the color. Let’s get into some of the details…

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
Using the Uncharted Mariner distress ink pad, I inked up a background stamp from the The Professor 2 (CMS395) stamp set, misted the stamp with water and lightly stamped onto a piece of distress watercolor cardstock (smooth side) cut to fit a small etcetera thickboard tag, which I had swiped in a pumice stone distress ink wash.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
By misting the stamp with water after inking and before stamping, you will get a smudged image, but that’s what I was going for so the background would be out of focus and subtle.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
Ok, not going to lie… I over-trimmed the background, said some bad words and decided to make it work by adding a panel of cracked leather cardstock to the top. This however caused another problem… I glued the cracked leather cardstock over the distress watercolor cardstock and there was a ridge. By the time I noticed the ridge it was too late to pull them up, so the next idea was born out of total necessity…

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
So onto the solution to cover “the ridge of cardstock doom”…

I needed something with some height or texture and the Foundry 3D embossing folder was perfect. I embossed a piece of idea-ology metallic kraftstock, covered with a layer of ground espresso distress paint. Because the metallic kraftstock is shiny, there’s nothing for the paint to cling to, no “tooth”, so you may need to run your paintbrush over the background a couple of times to get coverage and wipe the excess away with a clean cloth. I also added mushroom and rust alcohol inks to portions of the background.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
What ridge? What wrongly trimmed cardstock? This is exactly to plan! 😉

And this is how I make most of the time. It’s a series of corrected missteps and happy accidents. I just want you to know that I have no idea what I’m doing, but I have fun messing it up and fixing it up, and that’s what really matters.

I added a label I stamped with the Apothecary stamp set (CMS138). I have a few stamp sets that I keep out all the time and this is one. I LOVE these labels! I added a stamp from the new Eccentric stamp set (CMS448) inside the label.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
For the porthole I used circle thin frame dies from Simon Says Stamp to create the porthole frame. The base layer is distress watercolor cardstock stamped with the new Bubble stamp (CMS449) with Uncharted Mariner distress ink. This stamp and this ink is a match made in heaven!! I added a chipboard circle over the top.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I added a thin circle of adhesive foam so the acetate circle would sit away from the background.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
Then added the top layer and the inner circle which I cut from the embossed foundry sheet that I showed earlier in the post.

Please note the above photos were to show the layers. I decorated the top of the porthole and added the fish before assembling. Here’s how…

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I covered the porthole frame with distress translucent grit-paste, once dry, covered with ground espresso distress paint. I used crackling campfire distress paint brushed over the grit-paste and idea-ology hardware heads to imitate rust.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I stamped and fussy cut fish from the Tiny Things stamp set (CMS164). I used Uncharted Mariner distress oxide reinker to watercolor them and added to the inside of the porthole before assembling.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
Using more of that foundry embossed 3D metallic cardstock, I die cut using the decorative trims thinlits die set and added it to a thickboard etcetera pinked trim. I added a few fussy cut pieces to the edges of my tag. This is a cool design idea I picked up from the very talented Emma Williams.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
Using the Uncharted Mariner distress reinker, I watercolored this Dapper Uncharted Mariner from the Paris Memoirs stamp set (CMS159). I used walnut stain distress ink to watercolor his coat.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I fussy cut, mounted some adhesive foam on the back and added him to the decorative trim ledge.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I pushed a link of the idea-ology hook clasp through the hand and glued at the back to hold in place.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I added a die cut a piece from the steampunk parts bigz die, again cut from the piece of foundry 3D embossed metallic kraftstock. I added a hardwear head to the top and curled the blades slightly.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I melted Uncharted Mariner distress embossing glaze over Uncharted Mariner distress oxide ink, rubbed directly onto a piece of distress white heavystock. I love how dark and glossy it looks. I placed the alphanumeric bold thinlits dies onto the glazed background and die cut.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I mounted the glazed letters over letters die cut from idea-ology black kraftstock. Using the alphanumeric marquis thinlits dies I added “Mariner” to the tag, die cut from the foundry 3D embossed cardstock.

igirlzoe: tim holtz uncharted mariner distress ranger ink
I’m not someone who uses a lot of color in my makes or uses it in a bold way. It’s usually an accent and support act to the browns that I love. Uncharted Mariner works so beautifully with the brown distress palette and I know this is going to be a forever favorite of mine.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you have any questions.

  2. Potion Bottles

    4th November, 2021 by iGirlZoe

    igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous pot

Hello friends. It’s been a long and busy day here but I’m committed to my Halloween week and I’m sharing something I made for the Villainous Potion Distress launch. You can check out the awesome launch and properly meet the newest member of the distress family over on Tim Holtz blog.

    igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous pot
This really is a super quick and simple make and could easily be adapted from this framed panel to a card, tag, journal page, book cover and anything else you can dream up.

Cover an idea-ology framed panel with white gesso and once dry, cover with distress crackle texture paste and distress crayon. The background is distress watercolor cardstock with white gesso and distress spray, stitched with my sewing machine before gluing to the back of the framed panel.

    igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous pot
I die cut bottles from the bottled up and (retired) apothecary bottles bigz dies and sprayed with distress sprays. I die cut the bottle corks from cork material.

    igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous pot
Once dry I added idea-ology remnant rubs and stamped labels from the apothecary CMS138 stamp set with distress archival ink and fussy cut, adding remnant rubs.

Mount some of the bottles flat to the back of the framed panel and mount others with adhesive foam.

    igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous pot
This really is a simple make and I hope this has inspired you to make something and if you’re still in Halloween mode, keep going, I’m with you!

  3. Boo!

    18th October, 2021 by iGirlZoe

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink

Hello friends and happy monday! Are you still buzzing from the excitement of New Distress Day? Well me too! If you missed the party on Saturday, you can catch the replay and meet the newest member of the distress family, Villainous Potion, over on Tim’s blog.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
Today I’m sharing a quick run through of how I made this simple Boo card. Time can be of he essence and this is a quick make card and one you could easily adapt to a candy gift bag, tag etc. Here’s how…

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
Cut a piece of distress watercolor cardstock to 5.25 x 4.5 inches, add a couple of sprays of frayed burlap distress spray and dry.

Spray with 2 light sprays of villainous potion distress spray, add a spritz of water and dry with a heat tool. Villainous Potion puts the WICK in wicked! This photo needs smoke! LOL … if you watched the LIVE, you know.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
With a palette knife, spread distress opaque texture paste through the sparkle stencil THS132 and set aside to dry.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
As the texture paste dried the ink bled into the texture paste, turning it pink.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I placed the stencil back over the dried texture paste…

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
Painted a thin layer of white gesso through the stencil.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
You could go back in again with the stencil and add collage medium and glitter…
    but I didn’t LOL

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
Using the ghost stamp from halloween doodles CMS437 stamp set.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I masked the face with tape, inked up the stamp and removed the tape before stamping.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I love the creepiness of the faceless ghost and it has a more vintage and less cutesy look, which is more me.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
Clearly I’m not going to mask the stamp each time so I used my craft knife to remove the face. I can push it back into place if I want the face later. Out of context this paragraph would make you wonder… 😉

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I used one of the smaller masks die cut with the masquerade thinlits die set.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I mounted the ghost onto a little foam to make it look like it’s floating.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I stamped and fussy cut BOO from the bold frights CMS438 stamp set. Finally I stitched the edges and mounted onto metallic cardstock and a card made from distress kraft heavystock.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you love the Villainous Potion Distress as much as I do and I can’t wait to see what you make with it. Have a great Monday.

  4. Villainous Potion

    16th October, 2021 by iGirlZoe

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink

Hello friends and happy New Distress Day! Welcome to the family Villainous Potion! WOW what a wicked color you are! So deliciously dark and twisty! Tim Holtz and Ranger Ink knocked it out of the park with this final color release of the year! If you missed the party and the literal smoke and mirrors LOL… you can catch the replay and all the maker inspiration over on Tim’s blog.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
The color really lives up to the awesome name that Tim gave it. Villainous Potion is a needed, wanted and you’ll wonder how you lived without it, addition to the distress family. I have other makes to share where I used the OG distress inks, but this was definitely all about villainous potion oxide.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I really like the idea of having a stash of ready to go notecards and I find the repetition of making a set of cards relaxing. Plus handmade is always a really nice gift option. These don’t take long at all as you make them in batches and could easily do them in an evening.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
I inked up a stamp from the brushstrokes CMS293 stamp set with villainous potion oxide ink and spritzed lightly with water, stamped onto distress watercolor cardstock and a second time with frayed burlap distress ink. I used a stamp platform to keep the stamp in place between inking. Added the moth and type slide from the moth study CMS436 stamp set, watercolored with villainous potion oxide ink and frayed burlap distress ink. Stitched the edges and mounted onto distress kraft heavystock.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
The matching envelopes were die cut with the retired envelope bigz die and stamped with the brushstroke stamp and villainous potion oxide ink to decorate. I added some stamps from the rest in peace CMS435 stamp set in black soot distress archival ink.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
To store the cards and envelopes I cut a box using the curio box die and distress mixed media heavystock. Stamped the sides with stamps from the rest in peace CMS435 stamp set and decorated the top the same way as the cards.  Added a moth and edged the box with ground espresso distress ink.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
The box base is die cut using the curio box from distress kraft heavystock and sprayed with oxide spray stain. Add the cards and envelopes to the box tied with twine.

igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
igirlzoe: tim holtz villainous potion distress ranger ink
The villainous potion oxide is just amazing and mixed with antique linen and frayed burlap distress ink… YES PLEASE! Thanks to Tim, Mario and Ranger for inviting me to make. Be sure to check out the blogs of the other new distress makers Paula Cheney, Stacy Hutchinson and Cheiron Brandon.

Thanks for stopping by and for all your kind and encouraging comments during the LIVE. Have a great rest of your weekend.

  5. Prize Ribbon

    18th July, 2021 by iGirlZoe

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink

Hello friends. Happy Happy Sunday! Was that the best Tim Holtz New Distress Day or what?! Did it blow your distress loving socks off? It did mine!! Thank you so much for sharing your amazing comments and excitement for the newest member of the distress family, Prize Ribbon. It’s such a beautiful vintage blue and there’s literal magic that happens when this distress wicks. If you missed the LIVE launch party you can catch up on Tim’s blog.

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
I get so excited about new distress launch day that I can’t sleep the night before, it’s like Christmas. I’m very grateful to make alongside Cheiron, Paula and Stacy for the LIVE launch. My maker remit is new color + brown so I was able to “just do you” and I did just that here and pulled out my all time favourite stamp set, distinguished CMS371. I wanted my dapper gent to be dressed in his prize ribbon best attire for launch day.

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
That’s where the idea for the prize ribbon came. I had already made a cactus tag (on my blog tomorrow) and used an idea-ology adornment prize ribbon on that tag, so I went looking through my stash for a prize ribbon that would fit between the hat and suit. Can we just stop for a moment and look at prize ribbon ink wicking! I blended a little ground espresso into the edges but that is pure prize ribbon magic right there. The number was from the new matchbox bigz die accompanying thinlit set, it just fit perfectly.

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
Unfortunately (for you if you don’t own it) the die I used was at the back of my Tim Holtz Museum collection (tours start 2023). The mini trophy and prize ribbon movers and shapers die (659444) is long retired, however, one of the addicts from the THA group has already found one on eBay so they are still out there if you’re willing to search. No complaining about my using older products though please, I have been buying and collecting for a long time and I (and you) should always be able to mix and match the old with the new, that’s the beauty of investing in craft tools.

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
I used a #8 etcetera thickboard tag. Covered with white gesso and then idea-ology collage wrap which I stamped on using the backgrounds from the distinguished CMS317 stamp set and the farm CMS303 stamp set. There’s a really nice prize ribbon stamp in the farm stamp set for those now seeking prize ribbons.

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
I used the new trim dies from chapter 3 to die cut a leftover strip of woodgrain cardstock I had used for another project. I sprayed with water and then sprayed with prize ribbon distress spray stain and let it wick and run between the grain. You can see in places where the color looks almost navy! See… chameleon. LOVE it! The keys are from the idea-ology keys adornments set, added with twine that I wrapped around the tag.

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
I sprayed a piece of mummy cloth hoarded from last years idea-ology Halloween release with prize ribbon distress spray stain. I love to use this all year so I stock up a bit at Halloween and then hope and cross everything that it comes back the following year!

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
This is pure prize ribbon with no other distress mixed. It has such a vintage french vibe. I LOVE IT!!

igirlzoe: tim holtz prize ribbon distress ranger ink
It feels so good to be able to say PRIZE RIBBON. It’s such a tightly held secret that I dare not speak it’s name until release day for fear of accidentally letting the distress out of the bag. So welcome to the distress family prize ribbon, you are vintage perfection and you are a keeper.

Thanks for stopping by. I’ll be back tomorrow either with my prize ribbon cactus post or to edit when I’m coming back, because I’m running late LOL … Either way, see you tomorrow and have a great Sunday!

  6. Salvaged Patina

    29th April, 2021 by iGirlZoe

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink

Hello friends. Did you meet the new member of the distress family? Salvaged Patina made it’s debut on Saturday during the LIVE launch on Tim Holtz YouTube channel. If you missed the party, you can catch up on all the fun over on Tim’s blog.

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
It’s no secret that I’m a total fangirl of distress and so I was very very excited to receive Salvaged Patina ahead of the launch to make some samples. The turnaround deadline was quite tight so I didn’t have time to do full step outs, but hopefully the photos and description will be helpful. Ok lets go…

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
Using the Perspective Butterfly (665201) thinlits set, I die cut distress watercolor cardstock. As this is an intricate die, I used a chrome plate. Sprayed the butterfly with frayed burlap and crackling campfire distress sprays and salvaged patina oxide spray. I added opaque distress grit-paste and once dry rubbed salvaged patina distress paint over the raised areas with my finger.

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
I added some of the new idea-ology floral linen tape to the mini thickboard etcetera tag, covering the edges of the tape with translucent distress grit-paste.

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
Once dry, I covered the entire tag with a layer of gesso, set aside to air dry, then painted on a layer of vintage distress collage medium and again set aside to air dry. Once completely dry, I rubbed walnut stain distress crayon over the dried translucent grit-paste and to the edges of the tag and the idea-ology floral linen tape.

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
I stamped the background stamp from ledger background CMS410 stamp set in hickory smoke distress archival ink to the bottom and top of the etcetera tag. I sprayed salvaged patina distress spray stain over the top and blotted with a cloth leaving a slight hint of colour which allows salvaged patina to look very vintage when washed out.

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
I covered an idea-ology key with gesso and added translucent distress grit-paste  and once dry added salvaged patina distress paint to the raised areas. You can see the salvaged patina distress embossing glaze underneath. Using salvaged patina oxide ink underneath, it looks like lican.

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
I used the alphanumeric tiny type upper (664406) thinlits dies and idea-ology kraft stock stack to die cut ‘SALVAGED PATINA”. Finally adding a piece of idea-ology warm velvet trim secured with a long fastener.

igirlzoe: tim holtz salvaged patina distress ranger ink
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you’re having a good week and let me know if you have any questions.

  7. Love Wins

    11th February, 2021 by iGirlZoe

Hello Friends. With Valentines fast approaching I wanted to share a panel I made using the new Kitsch Flamingo distress for the Tim Holtz LIVE reveal. If you missed the party, you can catch up over on Tim’s blog.

I wanted to go a little more steampunk but wasn’t convinced it was going to work with kitsch flamingo, but I’m happy to report that I was wrong! The distress paint on foil with walnut stain distress crayon just works!

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
The kitsch flamingo distress paint over kraft heavystock is gorgeous. Paint on a thin layer and once dry, sand the edges.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
When I assembled the banner I felt that the pink layer looked a little washed out. That worked perfectly as the layer for my kitsch + glitch card, but for the banner I wanted the pink to pop so I added kitsch flamingo oxide ink with embossing glaze over the top. I flicked a little paint at the edges of the base layer. I die cut the top layer frame of the banner from kraft heavystock and painted with ground espresso distress paint and once dry, sanded as before.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
To make the heart I covered kraft heavystock with alcohol ink foil tape and die cut with the faceted heart thinlits die (664156). Before assembling the heart I embossed it using the 3D fourndry embossing folder (662717). I painted the heart with kitsch flamingo distress paint and once dry I rubbed some of the paint away with my finger and added walnut stain distress crayon.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I had used the tiny clips as clamps while the distress collage medium dried. I liked them so much that I left them in place. They really are so tiny!!

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
Finally I die cut “LOVE WINS” from the alphanumeric tiny type upper thinlits dies (664406) from kraft heavystock and covered with ground espresso distress paint. I use the distress collage medium bottle with precision tip to add glue to the back of the letters.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
    Thanks for stopping by.

  8. Kitsch + Glitch

    6th February, 2021 by iGirlZoe

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink

Hello Friends. Kitsch Flamingo has most definitely landed. If you missed the LIVE launch, you can catch up on all the fun over on Tim’s blog.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
For this make I could definitely feel the dark side calling me back as I matched kitsch flamingo with the glitch 2 CMS404 stamps and gears from the mechanical bigz (665225) die.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I started with a wash of frayed burlap distress spray onto distress watercolor cardstock and dried. I used the ledger script CMS241 background stamp, one of my favourite ever background stamps, stamping in kitsch flamingo oxide ink.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I stamped the glitch 2 CMS404 stamp in distress archival ink and blended in a little frayed burlap distress ink with a paintbrush. I spritzed with water letting the kitsch flamingo and frayed burlap wick and dried with a heat tool.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
The kitsch flamingo distress paint works beautifully on the idea-ology thought tokens. It really pops against the metal.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I die cut gears from the mechanical bigz die (665225) in alcohol foil tape embossed with the foundry 3D folder (662717). I added ground espresso distress paint to the background and evergreen bough distress paint to the rivets.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I added an extra piece of alcohol foil tape that had been embossed with the 3D foundry folder (662717). I painted kitsch flamingo distress paint onto kraft heavystock and sanded the edges to make a co-ordinated background. I scored and folded another piece of kraft heavystock for the card base. I love this kraft heavystock, it’s so sturdy.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I finished the gears off by adding an idea-ology hardware head in the center. These remain one of my favourite and most used of the smaller idea-ology pieces.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
Thanks for stopping by. If you haven’t heard the news, Tim Holtz and Mario Rossi are returning to our screens on Saturday’s for LIVES on YouTube. Tune in at 9AM PT and don’t forget your snacks.

  9. Kitsch Flamingo

    2nd February, 2021 by iGirlZoe

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink

Hello friends! Happy New Distress! If you haven’t seen Tim Holtz reveal the newest member of the distress family, head over to Tim’s Blog and give a warm welcome to Kitsch Flamingo!

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
When Tim asked me if I would make a few samples for the new distress it was without knowing what the new colour was! After I agreed we played “guess the new colour” and as Tim had asked me to make, I was confident it wasn’t pink! You should have seen my face! “You tricked me!” I said laughing. “It goes with brown” Tim said with a grin!

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I love that the different distress products give you a different palette for kitsch flamingo. For example, using the distress re-inker gives you a much darker and richer pink tone, whilst the distress paint is much lighter. I’m definitely team distress OG but the oxide in kitsch flamingo is awesome. It also works as the perfect ink to add distress embossing glaze to. The glaze is phenomenal. I’m going to need a bigger jar!! I rubbed a tiny bit of walnut stain distress crayon to tone down the pink.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
The distress spray is perfect to dye this piece of crinkle ribbon. I swiped a little walnut stain ink over the top and I genuinely love the vintage pink tone you get with kitsch flamingo and walnut stain!

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I added distress grit-paste through the grime stencil and once dry, painted a little evergreen bough distress paint and walnut stain distress crayon over the top. I love the juxtaposition between the gritty grunge and the kitsch flamingo distress embossing glaze over kitsch flamingo distress oxide ink.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
I love this sentiment from the tiny text stamps (CMS394), it goes perfectly with the moth from the specimen stamps (CMS410) and it reminds me of the encouragement that I’ve been given to create bravely. I think you’ll agree that kraft heavystock next to the kitsch flamingo, is a yummy match too.

igirlzoe: tim holtz kitsch flamingo distress ranger ink
Finally, I flicked a little Kitsch Flamingo distress paint at the tag and inked the edges with walnut stain distress ink.

I have to admit it… Kitsch Flamingo has made me love pink!

    Thanks for stopping by.

  10. Creativation 2020 Artist Spotlight

    6th March, 2020 by iGirlZoe

Creativation 2020 Tim Holtz Ranger Ink Artist Spotlight

Hello everyone. I can’t believe it’s March already, for me it’s a great thing that the year is whizzing by and one month closer to my favourite pumpkin season! It’s really never too early for pumpkins! Back to the winter season and I was really surprised and honoured to be asked by Tim Holtz to make a piece for this years Ranger Ink Artist Spotlight. In previous years this was the Ranger Designer Challenge. This year Ranger switched things up and asked each of their signature designers to create a piece and invite five makers to also create a piece of artwork using the designers respective lines to be displayed on the Ranger ink booth at Creativation, in this case, Distress products.

Creativation 2020 Tim Holtz Ranger Ink Artist Spotlight
You may know that I’m big fan of distress, all things grungy and all things brown, so this is what I based my piece on.

Creativation 2020 Tim Holtz Ranger Ink Artist Spotlight
I also have a big love for the professor and the professor 2 stamp (cms395) is bigger and better. I covered an etcetera tag in a layer of distress crackle texture paste and set aside to dry. I added a layer of distress vintage collage medium and a piece of torn typeset collage paper.

Creativation 2020 Tim Holtz Ranger Ink Artist Spotlight
I added a piece of the typeset collage paper over the etcetera tag hole reinforcer. This covered a gear die cut from distress watercolor cardstock which was covered in distress grit-paste and distress crayon. idea-ology hardware heads were added using the new distress collage medium in a bottle which makes the application of these small pieces so simple.

I added this vintage ruler and pocket watch that Tim kindly let me pull out of his box of vintage found things.

Along with this awesome US Customs plaque that I really love, again from Tim’s collection. Something about this just spoke to me… 😉

This awesome metal clock face was also from Tim’s collection, look at how the authentic cracked vintage clock face is so alike the texture paste on the tag. Love the authentic look of the distress crackle texture paste covered with distress vintage collage medium.

The gears on my tag were made by die cutting distress watercolor cardstock with the gearhead thinlits die set covered in a layer of distress vintage collage medium, distress crayon, distress grit-paste for texture and then more distress crayon on top once the grit-paste dried.

I love how the distress grit-paste creates a great rust effect and it’s so easy to do. The outer circle was stamped from the original professor stamp set (cms373) with distress archival ink and covered with distress vintage collage medium and distress crayon added to the edges.

I wanted to share this photo of me putting this together just days before the show! Truthfully, I was terrified of this project, so I procraftinated and put it off. Just putting it out there for anyone that ever struggles with creative mojo or feels pressure when creating anything, I get you. A big shout out to the friends who talked me down off the paper ripping ledge Kaz Hall and Juli Riedel and to Tim Holtz who splattered paint for me because I had “the fear” and Mario Rossi who helped me with construction, that ruler would never have been straight otherwise… 😉 (I think Vicki Evans aka Thelma was still loading her tags into the freezer to see “what if” at that point). Plus any excuse to share one more photo from “that day” is good one!

I loved the projects by the other makers, Paula Cheney, Stacy Hutchinson, Emma Williams, Jennifer McGuire and of course Tim Holtz pieces were awesome. I’m a bit head over heels for Tim’s alcohol ink piece. It’s BEW-TIFUL!
