It’s Wednesday and time for the funkie side of the design team to share our projects for the current challenge over at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog!
The current challenge is hosted by team member Suzz, who has chosen the theme KNOCK ON WOOD …Suzz says, “I decided to challenge everyone with adding a touch of wood to your art this challenge. For this challenge you need to dig through your crafty stash and look for some type of wood to incorporate into your art. This can be any kind of wooden object like a wood spool, a wood button, a mini ruler or even a branch.”
So I’ve been doing quite a bit of traveling recently and have had some time to read. Whilst I’m a big fan of technology, I don’t love electronic books and prefer an actual book in my hand, so needed a bookmark…
I also prefer a paper boarding pass as my phone is forever running out of batteries and so I decided to create a bookmark with an opening at the side where I could slip my boarding pass. I did this by stitching 2 tags together and leaving the right hand side open.
I used the new Tim Holtz Glass Media Matt which is a total GAME CHANGER! The way the distress stain beads up on the non stick craft mat portion of the media mat is where the magic happens. I LOVE the effect when you tap a tag into the beads of ink.
I added evergreen bough distress oxide and used the new Tim Holtz inventor 2 stamp set (CMS341), available to pre-order and shipping at the end of the month. For steam punk and industrial lovers it’s a must and possibly my favourite stamp set of this years release.
For the knock on wood challenge, I added numbers cut from distress wood grain cardstock using the alphanumeric die set and sidekick. I blended in brushed corduroy distress ink and edged with walnut stain distress ink and adhered down the side with distress collage medium.
I added a charm using an idea-ology swivel clasp and added a story stick and a couple of charms from the new idea-ology adornment milagros. I love the way it drapes over the top of my book.
I and my trusty bookmark will be boarding another flight later today to go home to see my Husband after 2 weeks away. To say I am excited to get home to him is an understatement.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you will find time to join in the challenge and pop over to Frilly and Funkie challenge blog to see the rest of the DT’s projects. All the products I used are available from The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

Great piece Zoe! The wood numbers, perfect!
Love it! I think the idea of a slot for your boarding pass is such a great one. These stamps looks ok amazing and pairing them with the “wood” numbers adds so much interest. Great project!
Awesome bookmark and clever design! Love the woodgrain paper letters! 🙂
Zoe, I love this project, and your tutorial is perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Love this! You always come up with these awesome design ideas. TFS Zoe!
I love your subtle use of color. Those splotches of Evergreen Bough against the neutral background are just so fabulous. You always pull together the most amazing vignettes. You will love having this classy bookmark along with you on your travels. Wishing you a safe flight home! Hugs!
So beautiful Zoe. Your creativity is Mind Blowing! Thank you for sharing. xx
Fabulous design on your bookmark! Of course, your color palette just yanks my chain, and the idea that it holds a passport makes it that much better/useful! Safe travels back into the arms of your hubby! hugs!
This is such a great bookmark. Love the charms at the top and the colour palette is so calming. I laughed when I read that you made a pocket to hold your boarding pass. Like you I read a proper book when I travel and also want a paper boarding pass but I don’t have a fancy bookmark and just use the boarding pass as my bookmark. I guess I should take a page from your book and create something nice like you did.
What a great tag/bookmark! This is such a perfect idea to use a tag this way. It has so many functions. I think there are a lot of people who prefer to read a real, tangible book.
Brilliant! I always have a book in hand to travel and the idea of the secret pocket is perfect for those key documents you need to travel with! Beautiful and clever!
Such a brilliant design (love that stamp set now!!) to have a pocket in the side for your boarding cards Zoe and to use the tag for a bookmark too. Love the background you created too! Hugs, Anne xx
